As AMD’s ‘charity of the year’ 2011 – 2012 St Peter’s Hospice has been the focus of our fundraising events and activities for the last year. From a midnight walk, ‘make a Will week’ and numerous deliciously baked cakes given away in return for donations, the staff at AMD have worked hard to raise what they can for the charity.

AMD has just taken on Rebecca Scadding as a Trainee Solicitor with the firm. Rebecca has worked as a paralegal with AMD for the last year and due to her hard work and commitment she has been offered the opportunity to stay on and complete her training contract, which is the final stage of training to become a qualified solicitor.

On the morning of Wednesday 23rd May the olympic torch wound its way along Henleaze high street and past the door of AMD's Henleaze office. In anticipation, and in an effort to raise money for St Peter's Hospice, our charity of the year, AMD staff set about baking cakes, in the hope that there may be some hungry onlookers who hadn't had time to finish their breakfast.

Effective when a person dies on or after 6th April 2012, in general terms, the new Inheritance Tax rate means that if a deceased person has left 10% or more of his estate to charity, then the tax rate applying to the taxable part of the estate may be reduced from 40% to 36%.
